Job summary

The Joint Commission is seeking a Medical Technologist Surveyor to conduct nationwide evaluations of laboratory programs in the United States. You will apply systems analysis and inductive reasoning to assess compliance with standards-based health care issues and identify opportunities to improve systems and risk points.

You will prepare management reports clearly linking deficiencies to vulnerabilities, and you will communicate findings in a constructive, collegial style.

Qualifications

• Medical Technologist with a Masters degree in a health-related field; must be registered with a nationally accredited organization.
• CPHQ certification required by hire or by 12/31/28.
• Experience in three or more technical areas; working knowledge of compliance and regulatory accreditation.
• Strong customer service skills; experience in large point of care setting; experience leading or participating in regulatory and safety committees.
• Five years of recent experience, including 3 years of direct clinical experience and 2 years of accreditation or certification leadership or senior management experience.
• Experience in an Accredited Health Care Organization is preferred; knowledge of Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications

• Medical Technologist with Masters degree in a health-related field. Registered with nationally accredited organization. Certification requirement: You must hold a CPHQ certification (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) at time of hire or attain by 12/31/28.
• Candidates must have experience in three or more technical areas. Working knowledge of compliance and regulatory accreditation is essential. Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills, have experience working in a large point of care setting and have experience in leading or participating in regulatory and safety committees. Experience in sales or teaching experience is highly desirable.
• Five years of recent experience, including 3 years of direct clinical experience in the appropriate health care setting(s), and 2 years of accreditation or certification leadership or senior management experience. Contemporary knowledge of and experience in health care operations, clinical practice, use of performance improvement methods to assess organizational performance, and current research and trends relative to health care.
• Experience In An Accredited Health Care Organization Is Preferred. Experience, including direct involvement, in healthcare accreditation surveys preferred.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and direct involvement with a minimum of two Joint Commission surveys preferred.

Physical Abilities

• Must be able to observe, in real time and without slowing or otherwise interrupting the progress of all applicable types of ongoing health care treatment (e.g., including emergency treatment, treatment during weather and other extreme situations, etc.).
• Standing For Long Periods Of Time, Walking Lengthy Distances, Lifting, Climbing, Stooping, Pulling, And Pushing To Adequately Inspect And Observe All Medical Facilities, Equipment, And Procedures, Such As Emergency Exit Procedures, Remote Storage Facilities, Any Areas Where Cleanliness May Affect The Possibility Of Infection, Medical Equipment, Etc., Including The Following Activities
• walking up and down stairways (e.g., to test escape routes, assess safety of emergency exits, regulatory compliance, etc.);
• removing obstructed covers or impediments to equipment or other mechanical areas.
• examining small and often dirty printed labels and print on equipment.
• Must be able to engage in extensive travel as set forth above, including driving a car to remote locations, flying on small airplanes and into small airports, traveling in all types of weather conditions, etc.

Candidates interested in part time positions must be available to work two weeks per month .48 FTE and must provide two weeks of availability for the purpose of scheduling. .70 (3 weeks per month) and 1.0 ( 4 weeks per month) FTE full time is also available. All positions require 100% nationwide travel.

Due to extensive travel requirements, candidates must be located within approximately 50 miles of a major commercial airport with direct access to domestic and/or international flight routes and facilities capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft.
