Job summary

TIC - The Industrial Company in Texas is seeking an entry-level Survey Assistant to support surveying crews with manual labor, stake handling, and line marking under supervision.

You will learn to establish elevations, measure distances, and operate survey tools while complying with safety rules and working outdoors in all weather. This role requires physical capability and willingness to work overtime as workload demands.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Field experience in construction surveying or related area.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor related to surveying, e.g., cutting brush, carrying stakes and markers.
• Assist in establishing elevations and grades as required.
• Install or mark elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman.
• Assist and learn distance measurement with survey chains and plumb bob.
• Set up items with electronic measuring and sighting as needed.
• Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and will work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform manual labor related to surveying needs, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, and/or pins and right of way markers delineate features of all phase’s construction project.
• Assist and learn the task of establishing elevations and or grades as required
• Install or mark neatly elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman
• Assist and learn to measure distances manually with survey chains using a plumb bob and maintain survey chains to insure accuracy and consistency
• Learn to set up items associated with electronic measuring and sighting and perform these actions as needed
• Operates and maintains survey tools and instruments

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.

Requirements

• Able to meet all physical requirements.
• Must have all required tools
• Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft)
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
