Job summary

CMT Technical Services is seeking a Surveying Crew Chief to lead field surveying and staking activities in Salt Lake City, UT. You will supervise a crew, ensure data accuracy, and maintain strong communication with clients and project teams.

Responsibilities include operating GPS and total stations, recording daily notes and time, and coordinating with the Survey Coordinator to meet project timelines and deliverables.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2+ years of surveying or construction staking experience.
• Strong understanding of field survey practices and equipment operation.

• Promote a positive working relationship with clients, contractors, and team members.
• Follow company safety procedures and jobsite requirements.

Compensation: $30-40/hour depending on experience

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Full-time; hours may vary based on project needs

CMT Technical Services is seeking a Surveying Crew Chief to perform and oversee field surveying and staking activities under the direction of the Survey Coordinator. This position is responsible for leading a survey crew in the field, ensuring accurate data collection and construction staking while maintaining strong communication with clients and project teams. The ideal candidate will have experience with field survey equipment, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage daily surveying operations efficiently and safely.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform daily surveying and construction staking tasks as directed by the Survey Coordinator
• Lead and supervise survey crew members, including training and oversight of rodman or survey technicians
• Operate survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors to complete assigned work

What you have

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in surveying or construction staking
• Strong understanding of field survey practices and equipment operation
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, procedures, and perform basic calculations
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to work outdoors and travel to project sites as required
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Familiarity with GPS surveying equipment, total stations, and data collection software
• Experience performing construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys

Preferred Certification(s)

• Certified Survey Technician (CST) - Level I or II
• Additional surveying or geomatics certifications
