Job summary

Haley Ward is seeking a Survey Technician in Melbourne, FL to support daily operations including boundary, topographic, as-built surveys and construction layout. Proficiency with optical/digital instruments, handheld controllers, and data collectors is expected, along with safeguarding equipment and supplies.

The role requires handling field duties, maintaining tools, and assisting the Field Survey Party Chief to complete assignments efficiently in an outdoor environment year-round.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions and communicate clearly.
  • Working knowledge of land surveying practices and modern devices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform boundary, topographic, as-built surveys and construction layout.

  • Operate data collectors and total stations as directed by Field Survey Party Chief.
  • Transport equipment to field sites and prepare readings from rods and prisms.

What you can expect to be doing:

Haley Ward is looking for a Survey Technician in our Melbourne, FL office to support daily operations, including boundary, topographic, as-built surveys, and construction layout. The role requires proficiency with optical and digital instruments, handheld controllers, and data collectors. Additionally, the employee is responsible for maintaining and safeguarding precision equipment, work vehicles, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies.

  • Equipment and supplies maintenance
  • Check and clean instruments including EDM, GPS, rods and prisms
  • Check and adjust plumb rod bubble
  • Sharpen cutting tools
  • Inspect and recharge equipment batteries
  • Check the general operative condition of assigned vehicle, including gas, oil and tire pressure
  • Secure vehicle and equipment at the end of the workday,
  • Remove and store instruments and other valuables in the office
  • Inventory supplies and restock as needed; identify/obtain-needed supplies required for the day's work assignments
  • Clear underbrush for instrument sighting
  • Set wooden stakes and iron pins into ground as directed
  • Transport equipment and supplies as needed to operate and measure distance with a total station
  • Obtain readings from standard, direct reading, cut and fill rods
  • Assist Field Survey Party Chief in accomplishing field assignments in an efficient manner
  • Operate Data Collectors as directed by Field Survey Party Chief to assemble Company standardized information
  • Become familiar with descriptions, coding and techniques for Data Collection
Working Conditions

This position requires sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions, and to lift and carry 60 pounds. Year-round outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work hours are subject to change with overtime work as needed to meet project schedules. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

What you will need to succeed:
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of survey experience preferred
  • Ability to understand and following written and oral instructions, ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of land surveying practices and techniques and knowledge of modern survey devices and modern survey methods.
  • Work requires comfortability with using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer or other appropriate tools.
  • Requires the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with project managers, subordinates, related personnel and limited contact with the general public.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
