Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is seeking a field survey crew member to support data collection on boundary, topographic, and construction layout projects across the United States.

You will operate robotic total stations, GNSS, scanners, and levels, document field notes, and collaborate with a Crew Chief to ensure accurate surveys and safe operations. This entry-level role offers hands-on training and opportunities for career growth.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet MVR standards.
  • At least one year of industry experience and basic surveying knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Support field crew by using survey instruments to gather data for boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys.
  • Assist field surveys under Crew Chief supervision; communicate progress and resolve issues.
  • Operate survey equipment such as total stations, GNSS, lasers, and data radios.
  • Use survey controllers/software to collect geospatial data and perform computations.
  • Read and interpret maps and plans.
  • Maintain neat field notes with accurate measurements under supervision.
  • Load/unload survey equipment and supplies from trucks.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicle.
  • Follow safety procedures and company policies.

Your Impact at SAM
  • Use a variety of land survey instruments to support a field crew in their daily operations to gather data for various surveys including boundary, topographic, and construction layout
  • Assist in completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief; communicate progress and address problems
  • Operate land survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, automatic and digital levels
  • Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
  • Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
  • Complete neat and orderly field notes with accurate measurements for land survey operations with supervision from Crew Chief
  • Load and unload trucks with land survey equipment and supplies
  • Clean and maintain land survey equipment, tools, and vehicle
  • Follow company safety procedures, policies, and practices
What You Bring to SAM
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid, current driver's license and ability to meet company MVR standards required
  • One year industry experience
  • Minimum knowledge of land surveying practices and performance of basic types of surveys, mathematical computations, and field operations
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions and environments
  • Available to travel/stay out of town for work as needed
