Job summary

Survey Project Manager

Salary Range: $93,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually

Summary/Objective: Experienced surveyor responsible for managing projects, day-to-day activities of team members, and coordinating with internal and external project teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and adhere to all Quality Control/Quality Assurance requirements. Effectively manages assigned projects and oversees work of office and field crews. Participates in marketing and business development activities and may participate in the recruiting and staff development processes.

Essential Functions
  • Participate in proposal development and interviews for a range of project sizes and types
  • Participate in business development efforts through understanding the local client market and participating in professional organizations
  • Assist in reviewing agreements
  • Participate in identifying project team and staffing requirements consistent with contractual obligations
  • Initiate projects with the accounting department and participate in monthly invoicing of projects and tracking accounts’ receivables
  • Lead kick-off meeting(s) to convey scope, tasks, and budgets to team members
  • Manage day-to-day activities for projects of varying complexity and coordinate with internal and external multidisciplinary team members to ensure deliverables meet project requirements
  • Manage project communication and deliverables to ensure the quality of documentation and professionalism
  • Delegate tasks and guide the team in developing design criteria, performing analyses, and preparing design documents on a wide range of project types and sizes
  • Conduct Quality Control/Quality Assurance reviews of work completed on assigned projects
  • Prepare and conduct client and stakeholder presentations with support from senior management
  • Monitor project financial performance and update project staffing requirements to meet financial goals
  • Collaborate with senior managers to strategize successful project delivery, financial performance, and risk mitigation
  • Identify lessons learned through the project lifecycle to be shared/presented to internal staff members
  • Assist in the authoring of project descriptions and resumes to be incorporated into marketing materials
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients; mentor and support less experienced team members
  • Ensure compliance with all TERRA standards and guidelines
Education/Experience
  • B.S. in surveying or related field strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of applicable surveying experience
  • IL/WI PLS License strongly preferred
  • May require a valid driver's license for periodic field work or site visits
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment and communicate with clients and build relationships and trust
  • Proficient in managing teams and projects across multiple disciplines
  • Strong ability to convey information through effective oral and written communication
  • Highly proficient with computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering
  • Strong proficiency in general documentation software such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam
  • Proficient using project management software and tools for financial management, reporting, and resource utilization
  • Demonstrated public speaking, presentation, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry and construction practices, methodologies, and best engineering practices and leverages that understanding to lead engineering efforts through all project stages
  • Effectively maintains office and field health & safety requirements and protocols
  • Maintains a work schedule conducive to team collaboration and project-specific requirements
Physical Requirements
  • Exerting up to 10-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds
  • Involves sitting most of the time, but requires the ability to attend in-person meetings internally and externally and visit project sites
  • Considerable time is spent at a work station using a computer and using various forms of communication (telephone, email, messaging, etc.)
  • Requires occasional work in the field and may include exposure to outside weather and environmental conditions as well as physical activities including walking, stooping, and crouching
