Job summary

RIGID is seeking a Civil Survey Party Chief to lead field crews in boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys along the Gulf Coast region. You will manage crews, ensure data accuracy, and coordinate with project managers and site managers on-site.

The role requires travel to regional job sites, strong technical surveying skills, and adherence to safety protocols. Proficiency with Trimble GPS and total stations is essential.

Qualifications

  • Two years of technical engineering/surveying training plus minimum 1 year of construction surveying experience or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to use all surveying equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to travel to regional job sites daily and/or overnight.
  • Operate Trimble GPS equipment.

  • Plan and oversee field surveys including primary control, construction layout, and as-built surveys using efficient data acquisition methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including sketches, daily reports, timesheets, and other documentation.
  • Communicate with Project Surveyors, technicians, construction manager, project manager, and team members to align with schedules and monitor progress.
  • Layout features according to plans and designs.
  • Capture and report existing or as-built data.
  • Represent RIGID professionally when interacting with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all systems comply with contractual requirements and company procedures.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications to meet tolerances and standards.
  • Ensure vehicles, instruments, and field equipment are maintained, calibrated, and operational.

Job description

The Civil Survey Party Chief works with and leads a field crew, performing and overseeing complex land surveys (boundary, topographic, construction staking, etc.) using instruments like total stations and GPS, ensuring data accuracy, managing crew, interacting with construction site managers and superintendents, conducting research, performing calculations, and preparing field notes for drafting. Requiring strong technical skills, leadership, and knowledge of safety protocols and surveying principles while working on jobsites along the Gulf Coast region.

Essential Job Functions
  • Plan and oversee field surveys — including primary control, construction layout, and as-built surveys — using the most efficient methods for data acquisition
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including sketches, daily reports, timesheets, and other required documentation
  • Communicate regularly with Project Surveyors, technicians, construction manager, project manager, and other team members to align with project schedules and monitor progress
  • Layout features according to plans and designs.

  • Represent RIGID professionally when interacting with clients, landowners, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure all systems are functioning in compliance with contractual requirements, project procedures and company procedures to effectively conduct the scope of work
  • Ensure collection, collation, QC and distribution of all survey data relating to the scope of work as per project procedures and company procedures.
