A well-established heavy civil construction and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to support transportation, bridge, roadway, earthwork, and site development projects throughout Ohio. This position is responsible for leading field survey operations, collecting accurate data, staking construction layouts, and ensuring projects are built according to design plans and specifications.
The ideal candidate will have strong field surveying experience, leadership capabilities, and proficiency with modern GPS and robotic total station equipment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise survey crews on construction and infrastructure projects.
- Perform construction staking for roadways, bridges, utilities, grading, drainage, and site development work.
- Operate GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, and other survey equipment.
- Interpret and review construction plans, engineering drawings, and survey documents.
- Establish horizontal and vertical control for construction projects.
- Verify field conditions and ensure staking accuracy before construction activities begin.
- Collect topographic, boundary, as-built, and quantity survey data.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to support project execution.
- Maintain survey equipment and ensure proper calibration.
- Prepare field notes, survey reports, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and project requirements.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of surveying experience with at least 2 years in a Party Chief or crew leadership role.
- Experience supporting heavy civil, transportation, highway, bridge, or utility construction projects.
- Proficiency with GPS, RTK, robotic total stations, data collectors, and digital leveling equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, construction drawings, and legal descriptions.
- Familiarity with machine control and construction layout technologies is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
