Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a seasoned Survey Chief to oversee surveying procedures for a large project region. You will manage survey staff, ensure contract drawings meet specifications, and develop processes for accurate quantities and payments.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in surveying with 5+ years as a Survey Chief, and strong skills in Propeller, Trimble, Civil 3D, and GPS tools. A BS in Civil Engineering or Geomatics and a Land Surveyor license are preferred.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Geomatics.
• Land Surveyor License preferred.
• 10+ years experience in surveying.
• 5+ years as Survey Chief.
• Strong knowledge of surveying in heavy civil construction.
• Familiarity with Propeller, Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, Drone Survey and GPS software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surveying procedures for an assigned location with survey staff and subcontractors.
• Establish quality control on contract drawings and maintain survey notes.
• Schedule and order survey materials and equipment to meet timelines.
• Develop survey processes for quantities for monthly payments and forecasts.
• Prepare as-built drawings recording locations and elevations of built work.
• Provide technical leadership to machine control operations and grade checking teams.
• Create 3-D models for quantity, survey, and machine control; GPS modeling and setup.
• Train field crews in survey and machine control techniques; recommend tools as needed.
• Support Granite's safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.

General Summary

This position is accountable for the overall surveying procedures for an assigned region or large project in accordance with job specifications and in alignment with Granite policies.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Manage and coordinate surveying procedures and processes for an assigned location including survey employees and survey subcontractors to ensure projects are surveyed correctly and meet or exceed project requirements.
• Establish quality control check on contract drawings to ensure accuracy of information; maintain survey notes in accordance with Granite’s policies.
• Schedule and order survey materials and equipment to ensure project timelines are met.
• Develop survey processes as needed to record and/or calculate quantities required for monthly contract payment applications and Forecasts to ensure profitable completion of project.
• Manage preparation of as-built drawings to record locations and elevations of constructed work.
• Provide technical assistance and leadership to machine control operations and grade checking personnel.
• Prepare, verify and provide 3-D computer models for quantity, survey and machine control applications; GPS modeling and field GPS equipment efficiency/set-up.
• Provide development training to field crews / personnel in survey and machine control technology and techniques; recommend software and equipment needs as necessary.
• Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.

Education

• BS degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Geomatics, or equivalent work experience in heavy civil construction.
• Land Surveyor License preferred.

Work Experience

• Minimum 10 years experience
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a Survey Chief

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Extensive knowledge of surveying and heavy civil construction.
• Familiarity with Propeller, Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, Drone Survey and GPS software programs
• Demonstrated strong project management skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of Design/Build protocol and development.
• Maintain required certifications

Base Salary Range:

$100,791.00 - $151,188.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
