Job summary

Apex Companies seeks a field-oriented rod technician to support survey projects in Florida. You'll start early, operate and maintain field instruments, collect data, and assist in training junior staff. You will work outdoors in varying conditions and must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

Eligible candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of related survey experience or training, and a valid Florida driver's license. No sponsorship is available at this time.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years related survey experience and/or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent driving record and valid Florida driver's license; must be 21 to drive company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Reports for work at 6:50 AM each workday.
• Performs rod technician position duties.
• Learns to use field instruments and maintains instruments in good working order.
• Operates all field instruments including levels, Theodolites and GPS equipment.
• Operates a calculator for various survey applications.
• Performs checking procedures for field information (peg-check, level, circle closure, double angles).
• Performs basic first aid when required.
• Follows FDOT safety manual.
• Runs all data collection equipment.
• Monitors on-site issues and contributes to production improvement.
• Participates in continuing education to improve skills.
• Assists in training rod technicians to measure with steel tape, level rod, prism pole and tripod setup.

This role is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus, subject to the terms and conditions of the Company's sign-on bonus program.

Job Responsibilities

• Comprehends, and follows the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) safety manual.
• Runs all data collection equipment.
• Monitors project-related, on-site issues and provides input for production improvement.
• Participates in continuing education classes identified as important to improve skills or to keep current on survey issues.
• Assists in training rod technicians to accurately measure with a steel tape, level rod and prism pole and set up a tripod.

What we're looking for

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 years related survey experience and/or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent driving record and valid Florida driver's license. Must be age 21 to drive a company vehicle.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• May be exposed to severe weather conditions including heavy rain, hot and humid conditions and sun exposure, uneven terrain, swampy or wet areas, and may be exposed to wild animals, alligators, snakes, bees and other insects.
