Job summary

England-Thims & Miller, Inc. is seeking a survey field crew member to assist the Crew Chief in collecting survey data and preparing accurate surveys in a timely manner.

Responsibilities include operating total stations and GPS data collectors, laying out stakes, measuring elevations, and maintaining equipment while following safety protocols. Strong teamwork and attention to detail are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years surveying experience beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Basic knowledge of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment is advantageous.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical stamina to carry and operate equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating survey instruments under supervision.
  • Set up survey instruments as directed by crew chief or surveyor.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic cleaning of instruments.
  • Support field surveys including topographic and boundary work.
  • Assist in establishing survey control points and marks.
  • Participate in collecting survey data and observations.
  • Record accurate field measurements and help enter data.
  • Assist in setup, maintenance, and care of equipment.
  • Report equipment issues to crew chief or surveyor.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and participate in training sessions.
  • Raise safety concerns as needed and help maintain safe practices.
  • Actively learn surveying skills under guidance of senior staff.

Job description

We are seeking a survey field crew member that will assist the Crew Chief with collection of survey data to produce an accurate survey in a timely manner. Cutting and clearing brush from survey lines, loading & unloading equipment required for the survey, assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes, marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other marks, assists in measuring between points, places stakes at designated points and specified elevations, assist in measuring between points, assists in operating all survey equipment including Total Station, GPS Data collector. The following skills will be required for this position:

  • Assist in the operation of survey instruments, such as total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors under the supervision of a survey crew chief or surveyor.
  • Set up survey instruments according to instructions provided by the survey crew chief or surveyor.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic cleaning of surveying instruments.
  • Support the crew chief or surveyor in conducting field surveys including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layouts surveys.
  • Assist in establishment of survey control points and marks.
  • Participate in the collection of survey data, including measurements, ratings, and observations.
  • Record accurate field measurements and other relevant survey data assist in entering survey data and data collectors or designated devices.
  • Assist in the setup maintenance and care of surveying instruments, equipment, and tools.
  • Report any equipment issues or needs to the survey crew chief or surveyor.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to maintain safe work practices.
  • Report any safety concerns or hazards to the survey crew chief or surveyor.
  • Actively learn and develop surveying skills and knowledge under the guidance of the survey crew chief or surveyor.
