Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is seeking a skilled Land Surveyor in Ames, Iowa, to lead and execute survey field activities. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, an Associate's Degree in a relevant field, and three to five years of survey experience.

Job description

What You Will Be Doing

• Plan and organize survey field activities timely and accurately.
• Work as a one-person crew or lead a multi-person field crew.
• Operate robotic total stations, GPS equipment and data collectors.
• Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA/ASCM, topography surveys and routine survey/engineering computations for various project types.
• Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders.
• Prepare construction documents and record data in field books.
• Maintain productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers.
• Perform shoveling, lifting heavy objects, operating motor vehicles and small power equipment.
• Overnight travel will be required.

What We Are Looking For

• Associate’s Degree in Land Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field from an accredited post‑secondary institution OR equivalent training or experience.
• 3–5 years of related survey experience.
• Certified Survey Technician Level II or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to perform tasks and solve problems independently.
• Excellent time management, organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable at the firm’s standard rates. A Motor Vehicle Record check is a standard condition of employment.

Physical Requirements

• Physically mobile on construction sites and field assignments.
• Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances.
