Job summary

NV5 is seeking a Survey Field Technician to collect geospatial data for land development and infrastructure projects. You will work with surveyors and engineers in outdoor field settings, operating total stations, GPS, and levels to capture accurate measurements.

Responsibilities include field data collection, instrument operation, data recording, boundary analysis, and collaboration with project teams. Valid CA Driver's License and travel up to 50% are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some roles may need an associate degree or technical surveying training.
• Prior survey field experience is a plus but entry level is possible.
• Proficiency with surveying instruments and GPS; knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Field Data Collection: perform surveys to collect data on boundaries, topography, and geospatial features using surveying tools.
• Operate surveying instruments and ensure calibration for accurate measurements.
• Record data in field notes and digital systems with attention to accuracy.
• Identify property boundaries by reviewing records and plans.
• Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe fieldwork environment.
• Collaborate with land surveyors, engineers, and project managers to support projects.
• Maintain and repair surveying equipment as needed.
• Review data for accuracy and generate maps/reports from collected information.

A Survey Field Technician plays a crucial role in collecting accurat e geospatial data through field surveys and measurements. They work closely with land surveyors and engineers to support land development, construction, and various infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Field Data Collection: Conduct field surveys to gather data related to land boundaries, topography, property lines, and other geospatial information using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
• Survey Instrument Operation: Set up and operate surveying instruments and tools, ensuring they are properly calibrated and maintained for accurate measurements.
• Measurement and Marking: Take measurements, mark reference points, and establish benchmarks to guide future construction or land development activities.
• Data Recording: Record collected data accurately, including field notes, sketches, and digital data, using specialized software and applications.
• Boundary Analysis: Assist in identifying property boundaries and land parcel information by interpreting legal documents and survey records.
• Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues during field surveys.
• Fieldwork Support: Collaborate with land surveyors, engineers, and project managers to provide support and assist in the completion of surveying projects.
• Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair surveying equipment as necessary, ensuring it functions properly and is in good working condition.
• Quality Control: Review and verify data for accuracy and completeness, making necessary adjustments to ensure data integrity.
• Report Generation: Generate survey reports and maps based on collected data to support project planning and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require an associate degree or technical training in surveying).
• Experience: Prior experience as a survey field technician or related fieldwork is a plus but not always required for entry-level positions.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating surveying instruments, GPS equipment, and related software. Knowledge of AutoCAD or other survey-specific software is beneficial.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, carry equipment, and navigate rugged terrain.
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure accurate data collection and measurements.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.
• Safety Awareness: Awareness of safety procedures and the ability to prioritize safety during fieldwork.
• License/Certification: Depending on the region, you may need a surveying technician certification or licensure, which can vary by state or country.
• Working Conditions:
• Survey field technicians primarily work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
• They may need to travel to different survey sites and be prepared for physical exertion and exposure to natural elements.
• Fieldwork may involve standing, walking, lifting, and bending.

The pay range for this California position is $28.00-$32.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location.
