Job summary

Bowman Consulting, in Bentonville, AR, seeks a Survey Director to lead the surveying function across the unit. You will supervise project teams, manage budgets and schedules, and coordinate with other departments to meet client needs while delivering the highest professional standards.

The role requires 10+ years in land surveying, a state-licensed professional surveyor, and experience with proposals, RFP responses, and business development to grow client relationships and firm profitability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of land surveying experience with at least 2 years in project management.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson surveying software.
  • Licensed Professional Surveyor in the applicable state.
  • Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
  • Ability to prepare proposals, respond to RFPs, and handle billing and collections.

Purpose

Oversee the surveying function of assigned business unit.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.
At The Operational And Company Level
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Serve as technical advisor by providing senior level input and evaluation on projects.
Do the Work
  • Meet with prospective clients, prepare proposals, and establish budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain close liaison with clients to resolve all project questions, such as, but not limited to, technical requirements, completion requirements and billing inquiries.
  • Oversee all surveying activities, including review of all project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
  • Supervise work of all survey project personnel to ensure it meets the highest professional standards.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Define the scope of multiple, complex projects and develop plan to accomplish land survey projects. Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules.
  • Compile project status reports.
  • Review job cost sheets/prepare monthly billings. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
  • Collect outstanding monies due from assigned clients.
  • Participate in and formulate marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
  • Secure repeat business from existing clients and identifying new clients.
  • Supervise the work of Project Managers when needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or related field preferred.
  • Professional Land Surveying registration.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of land surveying or related land development experience to include a minimum of two (2) years project management experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles.
  • Must be licensed surveyor in relevant state.
  • Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
  • Strong Survey Business Acumen - Prepare Proposals, RFP responses, Desire to pursue Business Development - Survey Accounting - Includes billing, project reports and collections.
  • Strong Local Jurisdictional Knowledge for Plat preparation and approval.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
