Job summary

KCI Technologies, Inc. in Pittsburgh seeks a skilled survey drafter to draft survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, Carlson, and MicroStation ORD. You will support field surveys with a team of survey technicians and a project manager.

The role requires a high school diploma, 4 years of relevant experience, and strong AutoCAD proficiency. You will review standards, coordinate with local agencies, and help ensure ISO-compliant project delivery.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 4 years of survey/drafting experience.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Civil3D, Carlson, or MicroStation ORD preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and pre-employment screenings may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Draft survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, Carlson and/or MicroStation ORD, ensuring standards are met and approved by authorities.
  • Work with a team of survey technicians and drafters under supervision of a project manager/Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Review and interpret land survey standards, technical documents, and local jurisdiction details.
  • Place Utility One Calls, manage responses, and interpret utility data.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, calculations, sketches, and plans with guidance from senior staff.
  • Review projects with customers and answer technical questions.
  • Adhere to company policies and ISO compliance requirements.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed budgeted utilization targets.
  • Attend bi-weekly or more frequent meetings with project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, Carlson and/or MicroStation ORD, ensuring they meet the required standards for KCI and are approved by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Work with a team of survey technicians and drafters under the supervision of a project manager/Professional Land Surveyor to support the practice.
  • Review and interpret land survey standards, technical documents, and local jurisdiction details.
  • Place Utility One Calls, manage responses from One Call requests, and interpret and process the utility data.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, sketches, and plans with guidance from senior technicians and project managers/Professional Land Surveyors.
  • Able to review projects with customers and answer technical questions.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, ensuring projects meet ISO compliance requirements.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed the budgeted individual utilization target.
  • Attend bi‑weekly or more frequent meetings with project teams to discuss progress and address any issues.
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub‑consultants as required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team performance and actively participate in meetings.
  • Complete all assigned tasks on time, within budget, and in accordance with the project scope.
  • Compare field data to base plans to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Qualifications
Education and/or Skills Required
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD.
Education And/or Work Experience Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite; Photoshop and Google Earth.
Certificates, Licenses, And/or Registrations Required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pre‑employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on position.
