Strong leadership, outdoor work, and surveying expertise are essential. The role requires an Associate degree in surveying/geomatics (higher education preferred), 2+ years in land surveying (1+ as crew chief), and proficiency with surveying instruments and software.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in surveying or geomatics; higher education preferred.
• Must work outdoors in all climates and be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Minimum 2 years of land surveying experience, with at least 1 year as crew chief.
• Proficient with surveying instruments and software.
• Must have a valid driver’s license; drone license preferred.
• Demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise field survey crews on boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
• Perform and verify survey computations such as traverse closures and level loops.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
• Document field notes, sketches, and digital data for deliverables and claims.
• Ensure safety compliance and HSAP/OSHA standards; mentor junior crew members.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify requirements.
• Monitor project budgets and timelines; apply cost control as needed.
• Maintain records of timekeeping, expenses, and equipment usage.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead a survey team in conducting accurate and efficient land surveys. This position is based out of our Blue Ash, OH office. The Survey Crew Chief will be responsible for overseeing field operations, managing team members, and ensuring the quality and precision of survey data. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of surveying techniques, be comfortable working outdoors, and have the ability to collaborate with project managers and clients.

What You'll Do

• Lead and supervise field survey crews on various types of surveys including boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys
• Perform and verify survey computations such as traverse closures, level loops, and coordinate geometry
• Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS units, and data collectors
• Document field notes, sketches, and digital data accurately for use in project deliverables and potential legal claims
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including daily HSAP reviews and adherence to OSHA and company safety standards
• Train and mentor junior crew members in field procedures and equipment use
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and resolve field issues
• Monitor project budgets and timelines, applying cost control techniques as needed
• Maintain records of timekeeping, expenses, and equipment usage

What You'll Bring

• Associate degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field; Higher education preferred
• Able to perform duties outdoors in all climates
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in land surveying with at least 1 of those years as a survey crew chief
• Proficient in the use of surveying instruments and software
• Capable of working primarily in an outdoor work environment and occasional office environment
• Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. occasionally with or without an accommodation, sometimes over substantial distances
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Drone license is preferred
• Demonstrated strong leadership skills

Salary Range

The minimum hourly for this position is $30.00, actual salary is based on the circumstances of each position and candidate, such as geographic location, skills, and certifications.
