Job summary

BD is seeking a Field Sales Manager to drive adoption, penetration, and market expansion of the Surgiphor portfolio across strategic accounts in the United States. You will collaborate with National Accounts, Direct/Indirect Sales, Marketing, and Medical Affairs to accelerate growth and establish BD as the preferred partner for surgical wound irrigation solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience, preferably in the medical device/medtech industry.
  • Preferably 3+ years of documented sales experience with Surgical Wound Irrigation products.
  • Ability to work in an Operating Room respectfully, tolerate observing surgeries, and potentially stand on feet for extensive hours.
  • Prior 1099 and/or IDN level contracting experience preferred.
  • Documented history of meeting or exceeding sales target.
  • Familiarity with Wound irrigation/Infection Prevention markets.
  • Strong persuasion and influencing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated, takes on additional responsibilities, and balances priorities with minimal direction.
  • Good judgment and professional behavior.
  • Ability to effectively build and sustain professional relationships with hospitals, other sales and home office personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must possess and maintain a criminal background satisfactory to BD.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain customer/medical facility access requirements, including regular or periodic drug screenings with satisfactory result.
  • Maintain vendor credentialing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license and meet BD’s auto safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Training 1099 Reps
  • Expansion in accounts beyond Orthopedic or 1099 driven
  • Maintenance of existing non-1099 covered accounts
  • SFDC Pipeline and forecasting Management
  • Develops thorough knowledge of the BD Surgiphor portfolio
  • Drive Surgeon education in partnership with 1099 in your designated area, and where appropriate your MSL.
  • Responsible for enterprise/top-down responsibilities tied to Surgiphor portfolio.
  • Attain sales goals and grow BD Surgiphor in your designated Area.
  • Position yourself as a product specialist, educating key stakeholders on our innovative products and solutions.
  • Develop new customers, establish and maintain lasting customer relationships.
  • Ability to discuss our products in relation to human anatomy.
  • Strong understanding of medical and surgical terminology.
  • High clinical competence: Confidence and experience in the Operating Room.
  • Ability to travel within the defined geographic up to 75% of the time, to include multiple overnights.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Surgiphor KOLs within territory alongside the Medical Science Liaison team
  • Support National and Regional Symposium from a sales, market research, and KOL relationship development standpoint.
  • Collaborate with Distribution channel partners when needed
  • Conduct key product demonstrations, in-servicing and training for clinical staff where applicable
  • Identify new business opportunities and implement strategic plans to expand market share.
  • Attend on-label surgical procedures to provide technical support and ensure proper product usage.
  • Collaborate with marketing, customer service and medical affairs teams to meet customer needs and ensure product availability.
  • Responsible for providing timely feedback on customer requirements and issues affecting the Surgical Wound Irrigation market.
  • Responsible for providing frequent and timely verbal and written feedback on performance related to business objectives, and documenting sales metrics routinely in Salesforce.com.
  • Responsible for monitoring progress of each territory within respective Area, to successfully achieve and exceed common, annual sales goals.
  • Manage individual Budget.
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the BD Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
  • Reports customer complaints in accordance with BD’s complaint procedures.
  • Conduct business with integrity and in accordance with BD’s Code of Ethics, BD Way, and all applicable policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Ability to support BD Commercial Excellence by complying with daily, weekly, and monthly management rigor focused on growth to drive disciplined process excellence and accountability in SalesForce.

Summary

This role is responsible for driving adoption, penetration, and market expansion of BD’s Surgiphor portfolio across assigned strategic accounts and geographies. This role blends market creation, clinical engagement, and account execution, partnering closely with National Accounts, Direct/Indirect Sales, Marketing, Professional Education, and Medical Affairs to accelerate growth and establish BD as the preferred partner for surgical wound irrigation solutions.

The SMM will serve as the product-line champion, providing in-depth clinical and commercial expertise, influencing key stakeholders from surgeons to supply chain leaders, and ensuring successful execution of targeted growth initiatives.

  • Collaboration and Support of 1099 Distribution partners
  • Collaboration internally with National accounts (DNA and NAMs) and internal Sales teams (Surg Solutions, ARR, Inside sales)
  • Coordinating/Collaborating through PAMs, MSLs
  • Maintaining SFDC funnel and forecasting (oversee funnel roll up from 1099 partners)
  • Potential assistance with trial support, and training alongside 1099 partners

There are many factors, such as location, that contribute to the range displayed. The salary offered to a successful candidate is based on experience, education, skills, and actual work location. Salary ranges may vary for Field-based and Remote roles.
