Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health – Short Pump is seeking a Veterinary Assistant (Surgery) to join our critical care and operating room team. The role focuses on triage, anesthesia support, and post-operative care, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes and client communication.

You will work 4x10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday with rotating weekends, and support licensed surgeons and technicians in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-year veterinary assistant experience required, ER or specialty strongly preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Speaking directly with clients and other hospital team members, excellent communication skills is valuable and important.
• Ability to work in a team environment by taking direction and assisting other medical team members.
• Exemplifies a strong work ethic, with a positive attitude.
• Able to multitask and work under pressure.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull above 50lbs and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Conduct triages and physical assessments on incoming patients to prioritize clinical condition and determine stability for immediate vs. non-emergent care.
• Recognize and facilitate critical patients to get timely care; communicate and obtain approval for Critical Care forms.
• Communicate with clients to obtain medical histories and presenting complaints from patients.
• Provide excellent client service and patient care; maintain communication with owners during visits.
• Monitor vital signs and alert team members to decompensation.
• Assist licensed technicians with outpatient procedures and diagnostics when not triaging.
• Document treatments and hospital workflow in the Practice Management Software.
• Restrain patients for diagnostic testing and physical examinations.
• Complete Client Service Representative tasks such as check-in/out and payments.
