Job summary

Humane Society for Southwest Washington is seeking a Community Medicine Veterinary Assistant for a full-time, nonexempt role at our Vancouver, WA site. The position collaborates with veterinarians and licensed technicians in a fast-paced clinic focusing on spay/neuter, preventative care, and access to veterinary services for underserved communities.

The role requires experience in a surgical setting, strong animal handling, and excellent client communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a clinic, shelter, or high-volume spay/neuter program.
• Experience supporting surgical or anesthesia procedures strongly preferred.
• Shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter environments preferred.
• Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
• Commitment to compassionate care and client communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient intake, preparation for surgery, and medical appointments.
• Support veterinarians and technicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Prepare animals for surgery, including identification, weighing, and pre-operative prep.
• Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery under supervision.
• Maintain accurate medical records and assist with post-operative discharge.
