Job summary

The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP) in Houston, TX, seeks a Surgical Technician Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction and guide students toward successful careers in surgical technology. You will teach using approved curricula, apply your operating room experience, and mentor students while ensuring compliance with accreditation and program policies.

Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, maintaining records, collaborating with faculty, and providing remediation

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
• Current credential from a nationally recognized credentialing agency.
• Current CPR certification.
• Minimum of three (3) years of operating room experience, teaching experience in the field within the last five (5) years, or a combination of both.
• Three (3) or more years of professional experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum content, mentor students, and support academic achievement.
• Must meet applicable state, accreditation, and program-specific faculty qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned Surgical Technology courses using approved curricula, instructional materials, and established teaching methods.
• Utilize operating room experience and professional expertise to provide practical instruction and real-world applications of surgical technology principles.
• Mentor students and provide professional guidance to support the development of competent, ethical, and professional surgical technologists.
• Monitor student attendance, academic performance, and overall progress, providing constructive feedback and proactive outreach as needed.
• Provide academic support, remediation, and tutoring to assist students in achieving established learning objectives.
• Ensure instructional delivery aligns with applicable accreditation standards, credentialing requirements, regulatory guidelines, and CHCP academic policies.
• Establish a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes student participation, accountability, and professional growth.
• Review, develop, and implement curriculum and instructional materials as needed.
• Collaborate with the Program Director, faculty, and administrative teams to evaluate student outcomes and identify opportunities for program improvement.
• Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
• Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, professional development, and mandatory institutional events.
• Maintain current knowledge of surgical technology practices, operating room procedures, and relevant industry standards.
• Perform related duties and additional responsibilities as assigned.
