Job summary

Pima Medical Institute in Tucson is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technology Instructor (CST) to deliver and manage the Surgical Technology program, ensuring curriculum alignment and high student success rates.

You will oversee lessons, assessments, and externship coordination while maintaining safety protocols. The role includes Monday–Friday schedule and opportunities for career progression at the Tucson Campus.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in surgical technology is required.
• Minimum four years of job-related training and experience for non-graduate instructors.
• 3 years OR scrub-role experience within the last 5 years OR 3 years of ST teaching experience.
• Active CST credential (NCCA-accredited).
• Current NBSTSA certification or state credential.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and adjust daily lesson plans to meet curriculum goals.
• Track attendance and report two consecutive absences with weekly reports.
• Maintain student success rates at 80% or higher; intervene with at-risk students.
• Record and submit final grades per policy.
• Assess student performance and adapt instruction to individual needs.
• Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and clinic visits.
• Conduct lectures and hands-on demonstrations.
• Advise students on program curriculum and academic progress.
• Alert leadership if a student's grade drops below 77%.
• Enforce safety and classroom protocols.
• May assist with externship coordination.

Education

Associate degree in surgical technology

Active CST credential (NCCA-accredited)

Instruct and implement the Surgical Technology program to educate students in accordance with the curriculum standards and objectives. Provide oversight of quality and integrity of Surgical Technology program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate degree (or equivalent military training) in surgical technology.
• A minimum of four (4) years* of job-related training and experience for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited program in the field in which they teach (must have an associate degree).
• 3 years of OR scrub-role experience within the last 5 years OR 3 years of ST teaching experience.
• Active CST credential (NCCA-accredited).
• Current NBSTSA certification or state-required credential.
• Strong verbal/written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
