Job summary

NYU Langone Florida is seeking a Surgical Technologist for West Palm Beach, Day Shift (37.5 hours). You will scrub on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room under the direction of a licensed nurse and assist the physician in procedural areas.

Responsibilities include instrument preparation, maintaining aseptic technique, and collaborating with the RN Circulator to ensure patient safety and timely care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required.
  • Graduate of NBSTSA-accredited Surgical Technologist program with certification.
  • Must communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Scrub on all surgical procedures in the OR under RN supervision.
  • Assist physician and prepare instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and report deviations.
  • Provide secondary circulator support and on-call coverage where applicable.
  • Support safety, quality, and performance improvement initiatives.

Job description

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Surgical Technologist-West Palm Beach OR-Day Shift (37.5 Hours).

In this role, the successful candidate Under the direction of a licensed professional nurse can scrub on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room and assist the physician in procedural areas.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Takes initiative to make recommendations to leadership for new and updates for Physician preference cards timely and accurately for a patient/physician.
  • Utilizes patient procedure, position to determine the plan of care.
  • Anticipates and gathers needed supplies, equipment prior to provision of care based on procedure preference card and escalates outstanding needs with the RN Circulator.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of use, care and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
  • Under the supervision of the circulating RN, assists on procedures as a secondary circulator.
  • Reports unexpected events and outcomes to RN staff/leadership in a timely fashion, e.g., count, specimen, breaks in aseptic techniques within the surgical field.
  • Provides On-call (where applicable) coverage proficiently.
  • In collaboration with the Registered nurse, ensures specimens are appropriately identified, labeled.
  • Regulatory, Quality & Performance Improvement, Safety
  • Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department, and service line.
  • Contributes towards quality and performance improvement programs and unit/service specific metrics, data collection, and projects, e.g., turnover times, Ontime starts, Time Out, patient satisfaction, instrumentation, waste, sustainability, ACA/RCA, committee participation.
  • Participates in programs/activities to promote satisfaction of patient, families, staff, and other disciplines.
  • Incorporates new practices identified in patient care standards into plan of care.
  • Responds to changes in patient care and standards for patient care activities. Demonstrates awareness of JCAHO, DOH, and CARF, AST standards.
  • Interacts with respect and in a positive manner.
  • Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships.
  • Gives a thorough report to RN Circulator, relief scrub person, leadership concerning count, equipment, instrumentation, or outcomes.
  • Demonstrates professional responsibilities and accountabilities as a team member.
  • Accepts responsibilities and demonstrates accountability for own actions.
  • Utilizes resources to meet individual learning needs, e.g., Standards, Procedure Preferences.
  • Seizes opportunity for learning experiences for oneself or to be shared with others.
  • Guides staff and students to use clinical resources to enhance knowledge.
  • Participates in the orientation of new and current staff to the scrub role intraoperatively.
  • Active participant in Clinical Preceptor program.
  • Participates in providing feedback as requested.
  • Engages in self-assessment and participates in activities to promote own professional growth and development, takes initiative to seek out new clinical experiences, and communicates to leadership.
  • Fulfills annual mandatory education program requirements. Member of organization.
  • Accepts constructive criticism and seeks out ways for a positive change in behavior
  • Recognizes the importance of cost effectiveness in delivery of patient care.
  • Performs duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent required. BLS Required (American Heart Association) Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA. Certification required..

Required Licenses:

Cert Surgical Technologist, Basic Life Support Cert

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree
