MU Health Care in Columbia, MO is seeking a dedicated surgical technician to support pre-op through post-op tasks within a fast-paced, collaborative OR. You will coordinate with surgeons, nurses and staff to ensure sterile technique, efficient case preparation and seamless operations.

Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, proactive and committed to process improvement, with CST/CORST/TS-C certifications as required.

Qualifications

• CST, CORST, or TS-C certification required.
• Detail-oriented with ability to maintain sterile field and support operating room procedures.
• Strong communication and teamwork in a fast-paced OR environment.

• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Assists teaching of student technologists.
• Maintains sterile field and ensures sterile environment during cases.
• Performs duties related to care, preparation and maintenance of supplies and equipment in ORs.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30am to 4pm; or 4 x 10 shift variable days

Work Arrangement: On-Site

Compensation

• Base Pay Range: $27.21 to $42.99 per hour, based on experience
• Special Pay: Additional $1.88 per hour until January 2, 2027
• Retention Rewards: Up to $15,000
• Relocation Support: Additional $5,000 if moving from over 50 miles away
• Retention Reward (Option 1): $2,000 per year for up to 5 years, totaling $10,000
• Student Loan Repayment (Option 2): $2,000 per year towards student loans, up to 5 years, totaling $10,000

Detailed Job Description

• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Assists with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student technologists.
• Serves as a role model to new employees and other staff members.
• Communicates effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.
• Adheres to standards, including but not limited to: unit and hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
• Demonstrates appropriate and correct case preparation.
• Establishes and maintains sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment independently.
• Applies basic knowledge of instrumentations to multiple surgical cases. Corrects deficiencies at the case level.
• Performs technical duties involving care, preparation and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment in the operating rooms in order to provide a safe and effective environment.
• Completes unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or Certified Operating Room Surgical Technician (CORST) certification by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or Technician in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) certification by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
