Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Peabody, MA is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our ambulatory team. The role supports the surgical team during procedures, passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field and assisting with equipment setup.

The position is 20 hours per week with a Monday–Friday schedule and a $1,500 sign-on bonus for a limited time. Experience and certification requirements apply, with opportunities to grow within a collaborative, patient-centered environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.
• Certification preferred; new hires must obtain certification within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist circulating nurse and prepare for procedures with proper instrumentation.
• Pass instruments to surgeon and keep sterile field intact.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team during procedures.
• Care for and maintain instruments and equipment per policies.
• Ensure accurate sponge, sharps and instrument counts.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and safety initiatives.
• Be available for on-call assignments as needed.

This job requires working in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on patient progression goals, quality initiatives and achieving the highest level of patient satisfaction. They will precept other staff and students. The ST functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Circulating Nurse.Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:1. Assists and collaborates with the Circulating nurse to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies.2. Primary role is as a ST, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon at the sterile field.3. Anticipates needs of surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, supplies to meet these needs.4. Assists in the care, cleaning and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment and supplies according to established guidelines, policies and procedures.5. Collaborates with the Circulating nurse to insure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to established policies and procedures.6. Responsible for application of the principles of aspesis to maintain integrity of the sterile field.7. Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level.8. Communicates effectively9. Parallel Processing in collaboration with circulating nurse/team staff to achieve and maintain turnover goals and on-time starts.10. Actively participates in performing the essential components of the WHO Checklist, hand hygiene, and other department safety and quality initiatives.11.
