University of Kentucky Healthcare (UKHC) is seeking a Surgical Technologist for on-call coverage in the Center for Advanced Surgery in Lexington, KY.

The role involves scrubbing for a variety of surgical cases, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring instruments and supplies are ready for procedures. On-call hours may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Formación

• HS required and graduation from a surgical technology program or one year of directly related OR experience.
• Graduate from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited program of surgical technology; or LPN with 10 years in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role; or certification via NBSTSA/AAH/NHWA/NCCT; or military training DD214/graduation certificate; or UKHC employee already in role as of 09/17/2016.

HS and Graduate of school of surgical technology or one year of directly related Operating Room experience as a surgical technician

Required Related Experience

Required License/Registration/Certification

Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs ( CAAHEP ) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools ( ABHES ) accredited program of surgical technology; or Licensed Practical Nurse ( LPN ) with at least 10 years in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role; or completion of a Surgical Technologist Certificate program and certified through American Allied Health ( AAH ), National Healthcare Workers Association ( NHWA ), or National Center for Competency Testing ( NCCT ); or certified as a surgical technologist or surgical technologist first assistant by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting ( NBSTSA ); or graduate of a military training program (validated with a DD214 or graduation certificate); or UKHC employee who is already in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role as of 09/17/2016

Physical Requirements

The essential functions for include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, the hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Shift

Hours of assignment may be during the days, evenings, or nights, on any day of the week; will also be required to work some weekend, holidays, and on-calls

Job Summary

The primary responsibilities for these positions include: Pass surgical instruments in operating room. Maintain strict sterile field, assist/perform surgical case counts. Obtains necessary supplies/instruments for such cases and checks for completeness and working order. Opens room independently or in conjunction with the circulating nurse (depending on case complexity). Sets up and maintains sterile field until the patient exits the room. Maintains a neat and orderly sterile field during each case. Passes instruments to surgeons, anticipating needs. Monitors for breaks in sterile technique and takes corrective action when identified. Performs counts in accordance with policy.
