Avera is seeking a Surgical Technician to join a multidisciplinary perioperative team in a hospital setting. The role involves preparing the operating room, assisting surgeons and circulating nurses, maintaining sterile technique, and verifying implants and instruments for procedures.

Training and onboarding new staff are included. Responsibilities extend to equipment operation, sterilization, and use of tracking tools to ensure patient safety and efficient workflow.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work the hours specified and perform essential functions with good communication and hearing.
• Preferred CST credential (NBSTSA) upon hire.
• Less than 1 year experience as a Surgical Technician is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Prepares the Operating Room for procedures, organizing equipment and instruments for timely setup.
• Assists the surgeon as first or second scrub, maintaining a sterile field and handling instruments.
• Assists circulating nurse in accounting for all instruments, needles, and sponges.
• Maintains knowledge of OR machinery and equipment (lasers, scopes, motors).
• Receives and verifies implants for procedures (grafts, hardware, allografts).
• Supports on-the-job training and orientation of new staff and students.
• Transports patients to the OR when needed.
• Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization per guidelines and QA.
• Operates sterilization equipment and uses instruments tracking software as directed.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience.

$25.50 - $38.00

Position Highlights:

This could be a 36hr or 40hr work week.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $15,000

A Brief Overview:

Responds and assists the professional nursing staff and Physicians during the pre-procedure, procedure, and post procedure period. This position will assist with procedure room set-up, equipment cleaning and maintenance, pre and post procedure assistance as directed by the Registered Nurse as well as entering and maintaining inventory control and clerical duties for the department.

What You Will Do:

• Prepares the Operating Room for surgical procedures in a timely fashion. This may include, not be limited to: organizing equipment and needed instruments; setting up quickly and accurately for emergency cases; assuring proper and adequate equipment for all cases.
• Assists the surgeon as the first or second scrub person during surgical procedures. Maintains a sterile field at all times in the procedure area. Maintains efficiency in handling surgical instruments at physician’s request. Verifies specimens with surgeons and nurses.
• Assists the circulating nurse to account for all instruments, needles, and sponges involved with the surgical procedure.
• Achieves and maintains working knowledge of all OR machinery and equipment used on the sterile field (i.e., lasers, scope equipment, and electric and nitrogen motors).
• Receives and verifies correct implants for all surgical procedures (i.e., grafts, orthopedic hardware, allograft etc.).
• Assists with on-the-job training and orientation of new staff and students.
• Assists in transporting of patients to the O.R. when necessary.
• Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization, according to Infection Control and established QA monitoring guidelines as demonstrated by annual competency review.
• Operates sterilization equipment which includes: steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, and automated cart washer. Operates equipment according to manufacturer operational directions and in a manner that ensures the safety of the operator as demonstrated by annual competency review.
• Utilizes desktop and laptop computers and handheld PDA for instrument decontamination, assembly and tracking functions.

Required Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience:

• Technical Certificate completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program

Preferred Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience:

• Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Upon Hire
• Less than 1 year experience as a Surgical Technician
