Howard University Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to join the Operating Room team in Washington, DC. You will support surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative nursing in sterile, patient-centered care, functioning across most procedures with intermediate equipment knowledge.
The role involves case setup, intraoperative support, and ensuring safety/compliance, with full-time day shifts and on-call requirements in a leading academic medical center.
As a Surgical Technologist II at Howard University Hospital, you will be an integral member of our Operating Room team — an allied health professional supporting surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative nursing in the delivery of safe, sterile, patient-centered surgical care. As a Level II tech, you will demonstrate advanced critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, function proficiently in the first-scrub role across the majority of surgical procedures, and apply intermediate-level knowledge of surgical techniques, equipment, and instrumentation, including in emergency situations.
If you are an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist who takes pride in sterile technique, anticipates the surgeon’s next move, and wants to grow your career at one of the nation’s most storied academic medical centers, this is your opportunity to make a difference where it matters most.
Howard University Hospital (HUH) is the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university. With a legacy dating back to 1862 — when it operated as Freedmen’s Hospital, providing care and refuge to those who had been denied it elsewhere — HUH has grown into one of the most comprehensive healthcare facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and is a designated DC Level 1 Trauma Center. Today, HUH continues its proud tradition of delivering exemplary, patient-centered, and culturally responsive care to the community, while providing exceptional learning and professional development opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
