Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Day Shift. The role prepares the operating room for all specialties, instruments procedures, and ensures asepsis and readiness for the surgeon's needs.

Qualified candidates have surgical tech certification, 2+ years of experience, and BLS. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered, with education assistance and day-one benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a surgical technologist program or LPN with surgical experience.
• Certification as a surgical technologist is required.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• Must have at least 2 years of experience functioning as a Surgical Tech.
• Provide proof of BLS Healthcare Provider certification prior to employment or within 60 days.
• Provide proof of Mandatory Reporting training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse prior to employment or within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.
• Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice.
• Assists in setting up rooms.
• Secures safe transport of the patient if needed.
• Confirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources.
• Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager.
• Identifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards.
• Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department.
• Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties.

Hours

• Day Shift - 8 or 10- hour shifts.
• Call every 4th weekend, or as needed by department
• Call response time is 30 min.

Education

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required, or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience.
• Certification as a surgical technologist required.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• Must have at least 2 years of experience functioning as a Surgical Tech.
• Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
• Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines
