Job summary

Summit Orthopedics is hiring a Casual Surgical Technician to join its surgical team across five centers in Woodbury, Eagan, Vadnais Heights, Plymouth, and Minnetonka. The role supports patient care with sterilization expertise, OR setup, and instrument handling, floating to locations as needed.

You will pick up shifts based on availability, with no guaranteed schedule, contributing to a patient-first, collaborative culture within Summit’s network.

• Confirms patient, procedure, and site accuracy before start.
• Aims to provide the best surgical experience for patients.
• Verifies implants as required before procedures.
• Manages hazardous waste per policy.
• May aid in reprocessing of instruments if qualified.
• Cleans operating room per facility rules.
• Keeps physician preference cards updated.
• Completes incident reporting when necessary.
• Evaluates new supplies and equipment.
• Understands CST role in emergencies.

As the Surgical Technologist, you’ll function as an integral member of the surgical team. With your expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique. You’ll combine your knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Join our team as a Casual Surgical Technician, supporting our five Surgery Centers located in Woodbury, Eagan, Vadnais Heights, Plymouth, and Minnetonka. In this role, your will have a designated home base is our and will float to other locations as needed, providing exceptional patient care and teamwork across our network.

This is a flexible, casual role—you’ll have the opportunity to pick up shifts based on your availability and department needs, with no set or guaranteed schedule.

The Surg Tech will:

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of sterile techniques in the surgical suite.
• Prepares the operating room, sterile field/table for planned procedure.
• Follows standard procedures/protocols in the preparation of the environment for the surgical procedure.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and provide appropriate instrumentation when needed.
• Confines/contains contaminated instrumentation and equipment.
• Participates in all events required to positively identify the correct patient, the correct planned procedure, and the correct surgical site.
• Participates in providing the patient the best surgical experience possible.
• Verifies the presence of correct implants, as needed, prior to beginning procedure.
• Segregates hazardous waste and disposes of it correctly.
• May assist in the reprocessing of surgical instrumentation, if qualified to do so.
• Cleans operating room per facility requirements.
• Maintains physician preference cards as up-to-date.
• Accurately and promptly completes unusual occurrence reporting when necessary.
• Participates in the evaluation of new supplies and equipment and instrumentation.
• Accepts and understands the role of the CST in emergency situations.

Summit's hiring range for this position is $32.60 to $40.75 per hour. The hired candidate may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, differentials and/or deferred compensation.
