Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Bellevue Medical Center team. You will support intraoperative nursing care, scrub for procedures, and help ensure a sterile environment, with duties before, during, and after surgeries.

The role is full-time with weekend shifts; on-call and varied Saturday/Sunday hours are required. Eligible staff may access tuition assistance, Clarkson College discount, and career advancement opportunities. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program OR equivalent training/scrub experience with an accredited institution.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program upon unit orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Support intraoperative nursing care and perform scrub duties.
  • Promote efficient operation of the surgery center and assist physicians and support staff.
  • Maintain sterile environment and ensure necessary instruments and supplies are ready for procedures.

Surgical Technologist – Bellevue Medical Center -

A Surgical Technologist is a critical member of the perioperative care team who assists surgeons, nurses, and other medical staff before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role is responsible for preparing the operating room, ensuring all sterile instruments and supplies are available and properly arranged, maintaining a sterile environment throughout procedures, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team to support safe and efficient patient care.

Work Schedule: Full Time
  • Part-time | Weeknight and 24 hour Weekend on-call required
  • 7-1930 | Saturday and Sunday only

or

  • 7-1530, or 7-1730 | Saturday and Sunday and a shift during the week
  • Call required 1-2 shift per month (varies)

Position Summary

Support the intraoperative nursing care of patients by performing scrub and related duties according to standards and policies. Promote efficient operation of the surgery center and provide assistance to physicians and support staff.

Required Qualifications
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program OR equivalent training/scrub experience with an accredited institution required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (BLS with skills assessment or approved BLS) upon completion of unit orientation required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a surgical technologist or assistant preferred.
  • Knowledge of various surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies/materials, all patient care equipment and supplies, policy, procedure, and protocol manuals, audio-visual, video, and microscopic equipment, computers, telecommunication equipment, and wall/ceiling and tanked medical gases preferred.
  • For some clinical areas, the ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish may be preferred.
  • Surgical technologist certification preferred.
