Job description

Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. They possess knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique and can adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting, relying on knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and technology as a member of the surgical team.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments.
  • Assist in maintaining a sterile environment throughout procedures.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Case log or listing of specialties and types of cases scrubbed provided with application.
Licensure / Certification Required
  • Current BLS certification required upon hire.
  • NBSTSA certification required within one year of hire date.
  • Internal transfers to Rochester or Southeast Minnesota are required to have NBSTSA certification.
Compensation

Compensation range is $32.53–$46.78 per hour based upon union contract.

Schedule
  • Full time position with 64–80 hours per week.
  • Variation of schedules: 8‑hour and 12‑hour shifts available.
  • Start times include 7 am, 9 am, 11 am, 7 pm, and 11 pm.
  • On‑call, holiday, and weekend shifts may be required.
  • Weekend work may be required depending on the position.
