Overview
Location: Main OR, Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA
Schedule: Full‑time, 36 hours per week, 12‑hour day shifts with call required.
Baystate Health is a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Daly Operating Room team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the sterile field and apply proper aseptic technique.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs during procedures.
- Assist in minimally invasive, open surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
- Understand human anatomy, surgical instrumentation, and procedural steps across multiple specialties.
- Maintain and demonstrate technical proficiency and knowledge aligned with assigned roles.
- Uphold Baystate’s safety, quality, and infection control standards.
- Adapt to the needs of the surgical team in a fast‑paced environment.
Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Surgical Technology or completion of a CAAHEP‑accredited program.
- AST Certification (preferred).
- CPR – American Heart Association; BLS Certification required if no surgical facility experience prior to July 1, 2013.
- Experience: minimum of 2 years for Technician II; minimum 4 years for Technician III.
- For Technician II: 1 year employment at Baystate or 2 years comparable external experience.
- For Technician III: 1 year employment at Baystate Health.
- Completion of orientation competencies required for higher levels.
Career Ladder
- Technician I – education and certification based.
- Technician II – Technician I plus 2 years experience; 1 year Baystate employment or 2 years external experience.
- Technician III – Technician I plus 4 years experience; 1 year Baystate employment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Sign‑On Bonus: up to $5,000 for qualified external candidates (subject to change).
- Base salary range: $31.62 – $50.06 per hour for non‑exempt employees.
