Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team under RN supervision, ensuring a sterile field and efficient procedures.

Applicants typically have 3–5 years of OR technician experience and completed an OR tech course. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with an Associate’s degree preferred. The role requires scheduling for evening 12-hour shifts in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a sterile field including instruments, and supplies required for specific operations.
  • Assists in draping of patient and establishment of sterile field.
  • Works with OR team to prepare and pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedures and maintains a correct count.
  • Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure
  • Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure
  • Holds retractors and other devices under direction of the surgeon
  • Assists in proper care and hand off of specimen, from surgical field to RN and verifies correct specimen labeling.
  • Assist in cleaning all equipment, carts and rooms after operative procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares used instruments for terminal sterilization per hospital policy
  • Provide care to any age-related needs of the patients served on the unit
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital.

A Brief Overview

The Surgical Technologist works under the direct supervision of the RN, to perform a variety of duties in the operation room to assist the surgical team, creating and maintain a sterile field and functions as a member of the sterile team.

What you will do
  • Establishes a sterile field including instruments, and supplies required for specific operations.
  • Always follows aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
  • Assists in draping of patient and establishment of sterile field.
  • Works with OR team to prepare and pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedures and maintains a correct count.
  • Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure
  • Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate’s Degree Preferred
  • Completion of operating room or surgical technician course Required
Experience Qualifications
  • 3+ years to 5 years of experience as an Operating Room Technician Required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Addition of sub-specialty certification completion, i.e. ortho, vascular or robotic. Ability to scrub a variety of service lines
  • LEVEL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) certification preferred
  • National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT) certification preferred

  • Good communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand the English language

Licenses and Certifications
  • CST - Certified Surgical Tech preferred .
  • Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $46.36 - $59.75 per hour
