Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in scrub and circulating duties under RN supervision, maintain sterile field and assist in instrument counts.

You will set up sterile tables, drape patients, participate in intraoperative timeouts, and ensure aseptic technique. Minimum education and certs include CST or TS-C and BLS; on‑call shifts may apply.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program (CAAHEP/ABHES) or equivalent military program.
  • CST or TS-C certification required if not completed via accredited program.
  • BLS certification by AHA or Red Cross.
  • On-call and shift flexibility (days/nights/mid-shift).

Responsibilities

  • Perform scrub and circulating functions under RN supervision.
  • Set up sterile tables and ensure supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
  • Assist in counting sponges and instruments during surgery.
  • Assist in gowning, gloving and draping the surgical team.
  • Maintain aseptic conditions throughout the procedure.
  • Participate in intraoperative timeouts.
  • Label and identify specimens for disposition.

Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs”, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, prepare sterile dressing and clean instruments for terminal sterilization. This role offers a hands‑on learning environment with opportunities to enhance technical skills and grow professionally each day.

A caregiver in this position can work days, nights or mid‑shift, which on-call requirements. Start time options are 7:00AM, 11:00AM or 7:00PM. Shifts may be 8, 10 or 12‑hours.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
  • Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
  • Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
  • Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
  • Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
  • Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
  • Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and give specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
  • OR completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • Certification of either CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Recent Surgical Technologist experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $28.50

Maximum hourly: $39.00
