Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to support the operating room team with setup, asepsis, and perioperative duties. The role involves preparing instruments, assisting during procedures, and ensuring patient safety and documentation are maintained.

The technician will rotate on call, assist with preoperative preparation, and help with turnover of the OR. A high school diploma and OR tech certification are required or expected.

Responsibilities

• Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation and maintains sterile technique.
• Assists surgical team during operative procedures.
• Assists in preparation and preoperative setup for procedures.
• Assists with patient positioning and table equipment.
• Prepares operative specimens and delivers to Laboratory for analysis.
• Transports patients to and from OR and Recovery Room.
• Cleans and sterilizes operating room, equipment and instruments after surgery.
• Stocks storage areas and prepares OR for next case or day.
• Records data on patient records and OR logs.
• Rotates on call as required.
• May perform Nursing Aide duties when OR is not busy.

Overview

Owns specific responsibilities for maintenance and policies for various responsibilities within the Operating Room. Takes direction from management of specific tasks to support operating rooms that are of the highest level of quality and safety, in meeting the needs of key doctors, surgeons, and other critical Operating Room staff.

Certified surgical technician Monday-Friday 11:30am-8pm

Responsibilities

• Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation. Carries out surgical asepsis.
• Assists surgical team during operative procedure.
• Assists in the preparation for surgical procedures.
• Assists in the preoperative preparation of patients.
• Assists with table equipment, positioning of patients, application of plaster casts and dressings.
• Prepares operative specimens, places in preservative solution and delivers to Laboratory for analysis.
• Assists in transporting patients to and from the Operating Room, Recovery Room, and patient area.
• Assists in cleaning operating room, equipment and instruments following surgery.
• Cleans and stocks storage room.
• Prepares Operating Room for the next case or next day.
• Records data on patients' record data sheets and O.R. logs.
• Must rotate on call as required.
• Performs duties of Nursing Aide as requested, when O.R. is not busy.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma required.

Experience

• One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of problem solving and decision making skills.
• Working knowledge of digital literacy skills.

Licenses & Certifications

• Grade 10: Two years' experience as an O.R.T. including successful completion of hospital sponsored self-instructional program in operating room technology as well as documented clinical hours; OR
• A Certified Operating Room Technician with six (6) months experience in operating room technology.
• Successful completion of a hospital-approved Nursing Aide Training Program.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training program in O.R. technique.
