Ottumwa Regional Health Center is seeking a Surgical Technician to join our OR team on a PRN basis, with at least 1 shift per month. This role focuses on preparing the surgical suite, assisting with patient positioning, and passing instruments during procedures.

Ideal candidates have a surgical technology program credential and at least 6 months of prior experience, with a preference for BLS. The position includes comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth within Lifepoint

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; Graduate of a surgical technology program.
• Minimum of 6 months prior experience in another facility.
• BLS preferred.

Responsabilités

• Prepares the surgical suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies; ensures equipment and instruments are in good working order.
• Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
• Passes instruments to physicians during surgery and continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies.
• Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
• Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
• Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

How you'll contribute

A Surgical Technician who excels in this role:

• Prepares the surgical suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies; ensures equipment and instruments are in good working order

• Patient Populations Served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.

• Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.

• Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present.

• Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
