Job summary

Optim-Healthcare in Savannah, GA seeks a PRN Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. The ideal candidate prepares the room, assembles supplies and equipment, assists surgeons, and maintains a sterile environment throughout procedures.

The role reports to the Surgical Nurse Manager and accepts new grads with proper program credentials. Responsibilities include instrument maintenance, assisting with counts, and contributing to patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• NBSTA Certification preferred.
• Experience preferred but new grads will be considered.
• Certificate from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting / or eligibility to certify.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical procedures, assembles supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Assists in clean-up of rooms between procedures and at the end of the schedule.
• Assists in monitoring and maintaining instruments, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
• Maintains proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and asepsis standards.
• Participates in sponge, needle, and instruments count with the circulating nurse as needed.
• Identifies and preserves specimens received during surgery.
• Reports any unusual occurrences, malfunctions, or hazards to supervisor.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort.

Education

GENERAL DUTIES

Prepare and organize the operating room with instrumentation and equipment, assist surgeons during surgical procedure, and maintain a sterile environment.

REPORTING

Reports to the Surgical Nurse Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Prepares operating room for surgical procedures, assembles supplies, instruments, and equipment.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment.
• Knowledge of surgical positioning of patients.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures.
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
• Ability to maintain quality control standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• NBSTA Certification as a surgical technologist preferred.

EXPERIENCE
