University Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the Operating Room team. You will assist in caring for patients from infancy to geriatrics under the direction of a professional nurse and help prepare and care for surgical patients.
The role emphasizes sterile aseptic technique, anatomical knowledge, and support to help surgeons perform invasive procedures safely and efficiently.
Performs a variety of duties in the Operating Room to assist the surgical team. Assists in caring for the safety and welfare of the patient in the operating room and for the efficient and prompt performance of assignments. Assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics under the general direction of a professional nurse. The Surgical Technician possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile aseptic techniques and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Expected to perform the job functions and meet the criteria of Surgical Tech I and Surgical Tech II.
A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program and a certificate as a surgical technologist; OR employed as a surgical technologist for one (1) year in a health care facility before September 1, 2009; OR, completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Armed Services of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service. Three years' experience as a Surgical Technician is required. Must complete Surgical Technician Clinical Ladder packet for consideration for promotion.
