Job summary

UP Health System - Portage, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Surgical Scrub Tech for full-time day shifts in Michigan. The role involves preparing the OR, assisting with patient positioning and instrument handling, and ensuring aseptic practice.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a Certified Surgical Technology Program.
• Demonstrates critical thinking, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• 1 year related experience preferred; BLS-HCP certification beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies; ensure equipment is in good working order.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Pass instruments to the physician during surgery and track instruments and supplies.
• Receive and process specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
• Perform on-call services as required.
• Facilitate efficient room turnovers and participate in staff orientation and training.
• Attend meetings as required and perform other related duties.

How you'll contribute

A Surgical Scrub Tech who excels in this role:

• Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
• Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
• Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
• Performs on call services as requested.
• Actively participates and ensures room turnovers are efficient and timely.
• Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
• Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

What we are looking for

Applicants should have completed a Certified Surgical Technology Program. Additional requirements include:

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP)
• 1-year related experience (preferred)
