Role Overview

The Surgical Technician assists nursing and surgical staff with direct patient care and provides technical support in the operating room. They ensure sterile environments, prepare surgical instruments and supplies, and support patient safety through adherence to policies and aseptic techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering quality patient care using technical skills
• Perform duties related to scrubbing, instrument handling, and sterile supply management
• Participate in staff, patient, and family education
• Ensure aseptic technique, monitor sterility, and correct breaches as needed
• Help with specimen collection, surgical dressings, and setup of surgical equipment
• Support communication within the surgical team and document pertinent information
• Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and policy updates
• Precept new staff and students, promoting competency across surgical specialties
• Maintain a clean work environment and support room turnover activities

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of OR Technician training or similar
