Job summary

LE01 Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics is seeking a Registered Surgical Technician to facilitate surgical procedures and maintain the sterile environment. Responsibilities include assisting during surgeries and preparing surgical instruments and supplies.

Applicants must possess a current Surgical Technologist registration and AHA BLS certification. This is a full-time role, with a pay range of $26.00 - $45.50 depending on experience, and includes comprehensive medical benefits from day one.

Job description

Job Overview

Registered Surgical Technician facilitates operative or invasive procedures by preparing and providing the required surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, maintaining the sterile field and anticipating and responding to the needs of the surgical team.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists as scrub person during operative procedures: assembles supplies and instruments, prepares sterile field, supports surgical team.
  • Performs accounting procedures with RN circulator.
  • Assists placement of sterile drapes, maintains organized sterile field, ensures sterility, takes corrective actions.
  • Prepares sterile dressings.
  • Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing, transports to decontamination areas.
  • Assists post‑procedure cleaning of OR and room preparation for subsequent patients.
  • Follows protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing, packaging, disinfecting, sterilizing and storing supplies.
  • Distributes medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility.
  • Uses PPE, follows safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
  • Operates equipment in sterile processing areas safely, according to instructions.
  • Monitors, interprets and documents results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all sterilizers.
  • Prepares and distributes surgical case carts per physician's preference lists and anticipated needs.
  • Inventory, receives, restocks materials for sterile processing services.
  • Assists with quality improvement of sterile processing services.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, resolves conflicts.
  • Participates in ongoing education and competency verification.
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Qualifications

Required: Current Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration, AHA BLS (within 30 days of hire and maintained while employed), computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel).

Preferred: One year of perioperative services experience and sterile processing experience.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Primarily works in a clinical environment.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry up to 50 lbs; push or pull over 50 lbs.
  • Requires bending, twisting, squatting, reaching (including overhead), sitting and standing frequently.
  • Occasionally requires climbing, kneeling, crawling.
  • Requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation.
  • All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.
