Job summary

Mississippi County Hospital System in Arkansas seeks a skilled OR Surgical Tech to assist surgeons, nurses, and the surgical team in the operating room. The ideal candidate will maintain sterile fields, prepare patients, pass instruments, and support the team in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements include an Associate of Science in surgical technology or related certificate, NBSTSA certification, 2 years of experience or LPN preferred, and a valid BLS.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science degree in surgical technology or related field.
• NBSTSA certification in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
• Two years of experience in a similar position or LPN preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent with valid BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Scrub arms and hands according to established protocol.
• Assist the surgical team with scrubbing in and putting on gloves and masks.
• Pass surgical instruments to surgeons as needed during procedures.
• Hold retractors and complete additional tasks at surgeon’s request during procedures.
• Handle tissue specimens obtained for laboratory analysis.
• Count sponges, rags, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures.
• Following surgeries, wash and sterilize all medical instruments and equipment.
• Clean, organize and restock the operating room following surgical procedures.
• Supply fluids for use during operations, including blood, glucose, plasma, and saline.
• Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
• Monitor patient’s vital signs throughout surgery.
• Ensure proper operation of equipment such as lights and suction machines.
• Offer technical assistance to the surgical team: surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists

Education

Associate of Science degree in surgical technology

Vocational certificate in surgical technology

NBSTSA certification (Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)

Two years of experience in a similar position or LPN preferred

High school diploma or equivalent
