Qualifications

  • BLS certification from American Heart Association required.
  • Colorado Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with room turnovers and set-ups; restocks and orders supplies; uses downtime for department quality improvement.
  • Promotes patient safety by participating in surgical time out; labels medications on field; verifies patient weight and allergies with RN before passing medications.
  • Assists with patient positioning and specimen identification.
  • Monitors hazards for sharp or burn injuries.
  • Safely handles bio-hazardous materials and uses PPE.
  • Prepares for procedures using preference cards; scrubs cases; anticipates surgeons' needs.

Education

Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
Graduate of a military training program in surgical technology or a Diploma in Surgical Technology with certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Colorado Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration

Job description

The Surgical Technician is a clinician who provides intra-operative technical assistance to physicians and Registered Nurses (RN) who care for patients experiencing a surgical intervention or other invasive procedure.

Location: Aurora

Position Type: Regular

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists with room turnovers and set-ups; restocks and orders supplies; utilizes downtime effectively; and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  • Promotes patient safety by participating in the surgical time out; labeling medications on the field; verifying patient weight and allergies with RN prior to passing medications to physician; communication of hand-off of care when relieved during case; and selection of appropriate instruments and supplies based on patient size and procedure.
  • Assists with patient positioning and properly identifies specimens.
  • Monitors potential hazards for sharp or burn injury.
  • Safely handles bio-hazardous materials and uses standard precautions and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Utilizes preference cards to prepare for surgical procedure; scrubs all cases as assigned; anticipates needs of case by opening correct supplies and instruments; is attentive to flow of the surgery so that surgeons' needs are anticipated.
Schedule:

Flex, one (1) shift per week (10hrs or 12hrs per shift). Per need of unit.

Shift:

Days with evening, weekend, and night shift available if desired.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
  • Equivalency
    • Graduate of a military training program in surgical technology or a Diploma in Surgical Technology with a surgical technologist certification may be considered in lieu of an Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
    • State of Colorado Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

  • Hourly Rate: $33.78
