Dartmouth Health is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant to aid the surgeon in exposure, hemostasis, opening and closure, and other intraoperative tasks to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes.
The role operates under the supervision of the surgeon and within hospital policy, requiring scrubbing duties, supply selection, asepsis, and compassionate care for patients, visitors, and staff. Full-time with a stable 40-hour schedule and comprehensive benefits.
Certified Surgical First Assists provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, opening, closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
The Certified Surgical First Assist performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with the hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.
Performs scrubbing functions during surgical procedures according to prescribed standards. Selects routine supplies and equipment required for surgical procedure. Assists with environmental asepsis. Work within the structure of the Medical Center and department policies, procedures, missions, philosophies and goals. Treat each patient, visitor and employee with compassion and courtesy, maintaining excellent customer relations.
High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of a Surgical Technologist course required. Surgical technologist Certification is required. Certification as Surgical Technologist First Assist. 2 years as a Certified Surgical Technologist. BCLS Certification required within 30 days. Completion of accredited CSFA program with subsequent certification as Surgical Technologist First Assistant.
