Description:Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technician is responsible for the care and safety of the patient during surgical procedures.The Surgical Technician provides technical assistance in the Operating Room.Knowledge relative to the ages of the patients served is essential.Essential job functions include preparing the room for the surgical procedure in a timely and organized manner.The Surgical Technician correctly practices the principles of asepsis.They clean, disinfect, and sterilize all equipment in the operating room.The technician coordinates the care of the patient with the RN Circulator.Responsibilities include stocking and replacing supplies and preparing inventory sheets.Maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures is crucial.The Surgical Technician assists the physician during surgical procedures and ensures correct instrumentation is organized and available.They follow verbal physician orders in the operating suite.Handling surgical specimens and compiling the necessary equipment on the surgical field are required tasks.Timely documentation of unusual occurrences and other departmental forms is necessary.The Surgical Technician performs CPR as needed.They must proficiently use all applicable instruments and equipment.Cleaning and wrapping instruments for sterilization is part of the role.Transporting the patient to and from the operating room is also required.Monitoring surgical equipment for maintenance and repairs is included in the duties of a technical scrub.Preparing the room and equipment for endoscopy procedures is expected.A cooperative disposition within the operating room is essential.Other duties may be required as necessary.Holiday coverage is required.
