Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a certified Surgical Technologist to assist with the operating room environment, prepare and pass instruments, and help maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures. The role supports surgeons and the OR team in delivering high-quality patient care.

The position requires graduation from a surgical technology program, NBSTSA or NCCT certification, and BLS. It is a full-time, on-site role with weekend work and a 72-hour weekly schedule.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Surgical Technology program.
• Certification NBSTSA or NCCT is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and stages surgical environment / operating room (OR) for procedures.
• Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
• Stages sterile surgical field with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
• Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field; assists team with gowning and gloving.
• Performs dexterous tasks and assistance during procedures under the direction of the attending surgeon.
• Prepares, labels and hands off specimens as appropriate.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and assists in prepping the OR for the next patient.
• Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
• Precepts entry-level staff, students and orients new colleagues as assigned.

Summary: Under the direction of a physician and/or a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist, Certified handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure and uses understanding of the procedure being performed to anticipate and assist with the needs of the surgeon. This role requires the knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

• Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.

Required

• Graduate from a Surgical Technology program
• National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
