Job summary

Infirmary Health in Mobile, AL seeks a Student Surgical Technologist Apprentice to support the operating room team. Under supervision of a certified Surgical Technologist or RN, you will assist in preparing patients and supplies for procedures.

Starting with skin prep, positioning, aseptic technique, and handling instruments, you will gain hands-on experience through Apprentice 1–3 levels, progressing by competencies and course work.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
• BLS certification is required.
• Apprentice progression: Apprentice 1, 2 and 3 track with stated competency expectations.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing and caring for perioperative patients under supervision.
• Prepares patient skin for surgery according to standards.
• Positions patients according to type of surgery.
• Maintains aseptic techniques in the operating room.
• Prepares, stores, distributes, and maintains supplies and equipment to support OR operations.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for perioperative patients under the direction of the supervising certified Surgical Technologist or RN. Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with Infirmary Health’s standards. Positions patients according to type of surgery. Maintains aseptic techniques. Cleans, prepares, stores, distributes, and maintains various supplies, equipment, and instruments to assure efficiency operation and patient safety in the operating room.

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

BLS

Student Surgical Technologist Apprentice 1 requires the following:

• Field training in OJL competencies and pass first semester SUR courses with a grade of C or higher

Student Surgical Technologist Apprentice 2 requires the following:

• Demonstrated fundamentals in all OJL competencies and pass second semester SUR courses with a grade of C or higher

Student Surgical Technologist Apprentice 3 requires the following:

• Proficient in all OJL competencies and complete all courses required for surg tech AAS degree with grade of C or higher
