Job summary

Cataract & Laser Institute in Maumee, OH is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our surgical team. The RN will care for patients before, during, and after procedures, educate families, and support rehabilitation in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, adherence to regulatory standards, infection control, and confidential information handling. A BSN, RN license in Ohio, and BLS are required; ACLS due within 12 months.

Qualifications

• BS/BSN degree required.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• ACLS certification within one year of employment.
• Minimum of one year of related work experience in a surgical/operating room.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care pre-, intra-, and post-operatively with the surgical team.
• Adhere to ASC standards and state nursing regulations to ensure quality.
• Offer emotional support to patients and families.
• Maintain safe, clean environment and assist healthcare staff.
• Follow infection-control, medication handling, and substance rules.
• Protect patient privacy and confidential information.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse position is responsible for treatment and care of our surgical patients. They record patient symptoms, administer medications and assist with patient rehabilitation. The registered nurse educates patients and family members about medical conditions and provides emotional support. RNs work within the context of the surgical team to provide care to individuals before, during and after a surgical procedure.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods; collaborates with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.
• Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards; following ASC philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
• Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
• Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.

Requirements

• BS/BSN degree required
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment
• Current certification in Basic Life Support
• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required to be obtained within one (1) year of employment
• Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience in a surgical/operating room environment is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA Guidelines)

• Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Stooping, Grasping, Lifting, Talking, Hearing. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity.
• Physical requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
