JOB SUMMARY

Surgical technologists work under the supervision of the surgeon to ensure the safe and effective conduct of invasive procedures. ST's handle instrumentation, supplies and equipment necessary during the procedure. Has an understanding of the procedure and anticipates the surgeon's needs.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
  • Adheres to Brodstone Healthcare's Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Adheres to Brodstone Standards of Behavior.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the hospital and Surgery Department in accordance with the scope of practice of the state of Nebraska.
  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for the procedure are in-house.
  • Prepares the sterile area.
  • Passes instrumentation.
  • Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
  • Prepares sterile dressings.
  • Conducts counts (sharp/sponge/instrument) per hospital policy.
  • Assists with cleaning of the periop, sterilization area (daily, weekly, and quarterly).
  • Has basic knowledge of instruments decontamination and sterilization.
  • Assists with room turnover.
  • Assists with OR supply stocking, ordering of supplies.
  • Assists with sterilization/decontamination as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility in care and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to operate computer systems applicable to assigned duties.
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Recognizes life threatening situations and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Follows Standard Precautions as prescribed in hospital policies/procedures.
  • Consistently supports the Compliance Program and participates in ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance related issues.
  • Observes, evaluates and documents care given as well as the patients' physical and emotional condition, response to drugs or treatments, including side effects, desired response and contraindications according to hospital policy/procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, workshops and seminars, other appropriate learning experiences, maintaining ongoing education to upgrade professional skills and ensure nursing licensure.
  • Has ability to work with a variety of patients, regardless of various racial, ethnic or sociological background or disability.
  • Abides by the policies and procedures of the facility. Standards of conduct in the Compliance Plan and participates in ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Associate Degree - Scrub Technologist
EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred: 1-2 Years in hospital / surgery center
CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • BLS certification within 3 months of employment
  • Preferred: Surgical Scrub Tech Certification
