Job summary

Neuralink is seeking a Robot Optics Intern to design, characterize, and calibrate optical systems used in our surgical robots and consumables manufacturing. You will work on sub-micron imaging, laser scanning, and non-imaging optical power delivery, while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.

The role involves designing imaging systems, testing and refining vision components, and developing software for image acquisition.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with optics fundamentals (aberrations, transmission/reflection, polarization).
• Experience with visible/IR optical equipment (fiber splicers, light sources, beam profilers, meters).
• 1+ years of optical engineering experience with optics design in Zemax or equivalent.
• 1+ years of assembly, precision alignment, and integration of complex optomechanical systems.
• 1+ years of benchtop testing, characterization, and metrology benchmarking of optical systems.
• Experience documenting procedures in the optical design pipeline with detail.

Responsibilities

• Design and simulate optical imaging systems.
• Test, verify, and maintain vision systems in robots.
• Repair and troubleshoot existing optical subassemblies.
• Test and verify optics consumables.
• Develop image acquisition and processing software.
• Conduct preliminary tests of new imaging technologies for robotic surgeries.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and implement process improvements.
• Prepare SOPs and documentation for robot optics.
